Good Specials, Lots of Combos, Drink Included. Enchiladas Were Average.
I stopped into Guerrero's to give it a try. I've driven past this place many times, but never stopped, I was looking for somewhere to eat in the area and just randomly selected it.
The menu was pretty extensive, with a lot of combo plates, everything from enchiladas and tacos, to steaks, fajitas, carne guisada, chille rellenos and more. I was tempted to try something other then enchiladas, as I've found the more off the radar places seem to have better guisda, asada, and other items. But I usually rank places by enchiladas, so I went with the least expensive combo on the menu. The #1 $7.99 enchilada/taco combo.
I was waited on instantly when I entered, my drink, chips and salsa were brought out right away, but when I wasn't ready to order yet, they disappeared and didnt come back for at least 10 minutes.
Once my order was placed it was about 8 minutes before the food came out. The portion was decently sized, the enchiladas were covered in a gravy that had chunks of meat in it, and the crispy taco was served with the lettuce and tomato to the side. The crispy taco was decent, had ok flavor, but was just pretty average. The enchiladas were just average as well, with cheese that wasnt as baked or liquified as I like, a little thick, but the main thing was that the overall temp and flavor of my plate tasted more like it had been pre-made than cooked to order.
The beans had good flavor, better than many places, and the rice was decent, but again didnt taste fresh, more like it had been made earlier in the day, not recently.
My overall experience wasn't bad, but I wouldn't return for the enchiladas. The rice and beans were decent enough that with the right entre the plate would be decent. But the enchiladas let me down. Service could have been a bit better as well. Perhaps I should have gone with the puffy tacos advertised on their window, however, the most mentioned items on their Google reviews were breakfast items.
My total was $10 before tip, $8 for the plate, $1.25 for the canned soda, and the rest in sales tax. Not an expensive meal, and while I wouldnt say the food was bad, I was hoping for a better experence. I pass by here frequently, so I may give it another try. I saw the chalk board with specials that included tea as I was leaving, which appeared to be some pretty good deals.— Paul
