  Decent Tacos, Good Prices & Specials.

  I believe this was my 3rd time eating here, and on this trip I tried a special that wasn't even on the menu. A friend recommended the Tacos El Carbon, which I later saw advertised on the dry erase board in the dining area. The plate came with borracho beans, 3 tacos with white cheese, habanero, grilled onions and some lime.
  
  The meat had decent flavor, and was cooked until it just started to crisp, but the beans could have used some more flavor. The borracho beans did have tripe and onion in them, but something was missing. I don't remember seeing any cilantro in them.
  
  The portion size was pretty decent, and price was definitely good. The plate cost what you would pay for just tacos elsewhere. Ranked against other street tacos flavor wise, these fell a little short of getting a top ranking, but as far as the price, they are probably in the top 5.
  
  I feel like one of the biggest things at this restaurant are that the prices here have been pretty good over the several years that have spanned my visited. They seem to always have some good specials, and at one point they even offered a 40% off Restaurant.com coupon which is what brought me to the restaurant for the very first time. Its definitely a place you can get an affordable meal, or feed the family without breaking the bank. If your in the area its worth a try.
  
  I noticed the Google listing shows this is location #2, and location #1 appears to be on Nacogdoches Rd, next door to the PepBoys.

  Good Food For The Price

  This was my first visit to El Jalisco Mexican Restaurant, which I decided to try after seeing it listed on Restaurant.com. I was pleasantly surprised by the reasonable prices, good menu selection, and variety of combination plates. They also offer a few harder-to-find items that you don't see at every Mexican restaurant.
  
  Service was excellent from the start. We were greeted almost immediately, had our drinks within a few minutes, and our waitress checked on us at least three times throughout the meal. She was friendly and attentive without being intrusive.
  
  I ordered the Schertz Plate, which came with two enchiladas, a puffy taco, a chalupa, rice, and beans. My dining partner ordered the steak with nopalitos, rice, and beans. The enchiladas and puffy taco were good, while the rice and beans were fairly average. The chalupa was a little different from what I'm used to, resembling more of a bean-and-cheese cup. It's a style I've seen before, but not very often. My dining partner enjoyed the steak as well.
  
  Portions were generous, and neither of us could finish everything on our plates. Before applying our discount, the total for both meals and drinks was around $22, making this an excellent value. My only real complaint was that soft drinks were available only in cans or bottles, so there were no refills.
  
  I'd definitely return for another meal. El Jalisco offers good service, generous portions, and reasonable prices. If you're looking for affordable Mexican food in the area, this place should definitely be on your list to try.
