I Wouldnt Call Them Authentic, But They Are Decent.
This was my 4th time eating a Charleys Cheesesteaks sandwich. Charleys has been replacing McDonalds locations as the in store eatery at many San Antonio Walmart locations.
Charleys menu has a variety of items including chicken wings, chicken cheesesteak sandwiches and steak cheesesteak sandwiches. Theres a lot of toppings to choose from, and a lot of options as far as the sandwiches go.
Charlies also offers discounted chicken wings for $0.75 each a few days a week.
On this visit I decided to go with the classic cheesesteak. I walked into the Walmart from my parking spot and waited maybe 5 minutes. My order was brought up to the counter, made fresh, steaming hot.
I wouldnt give this cheesesteak any awards, but it wasnt bad. I ordered the large, and used an app coupon. It was wasy more than I could eat in a single sitting. It made 2 meals, and eaten with fries I would have barely been able to finish half the sandwich.
The veggies were fresh, everything had good flavor, the meat was hot, with crisp edges, the cheese fully melted. Steam was coming out of the sandwich when I opened the box.
I would say the biggest downfall of the sandwich was that the grilled onion, mushroom and bellpepper mix lacked the flavorful punch I look for in a cheesesteak. Most the flavor of this sandwich came from the meat, cheese & mayo. It was like a hot sandwich with a bunch of cold toppings.
I had previously tried the Bacon 3 Cheesesteak and I'm kinda split between the 2. Im not sure which I think was better. The bacon one had some good flavor as well, but the hot/cold combo just doesnt work for me.
I've yet to try the wings, but they are definitely on my list to try, the looked pretty good.
If you like hot sandwiches, or cheesesteaks I'd give this place a try.— Paul
