2nd Truck I've Found With Indian Tacos & Frybread, But This One Has More New Mexico Options!
Let's start with the frybread, it had a nice crispy crust, was fluffy inside and had good flavor. Of the frybreads I've had this one is in the top 3.. The filling here was a chili with pinto beans, and ground beef. The owners told me the chili is a family recipe. The Navajo (indian) taco was the full size of the to go box and very filling. As an added bonus they had Hatch green chili on the menu for their green chile cheese burgers, but it can be added to the Navajo taco. So I added some in addition to the lettuce, tomato and cheese it comes with.
The husband and wife that run the truck are from San Antonio (TX) and North New Mexico. I spoke with them a bit about frybread and fillings and they said this type was more your New Mexico style Navajo taco, while others with more meat are generally from other regions.
In addition to the Navajo taco, they have a pow wow dog (weenie wrapped in frybread), a Nutella frybread dessert, hatch chile cheese burger, Frito pie and their homemade chili. Prices are fair, Navajo tacos were $12, hot dogs $6, desserts $6 and burgers $11.50. (I believe the dessert price is for a full size frybread) My photo is of one made from the hamburger sized frybread.
The REZ'Rvation Only food truck has been featured on SA Live and a few other local news outlets. I heard about them about a year ago when they first opened and I posted I was looking for places to get frybread, but hadn't taken the time to get out to a location they were at until now. The owners Chris and Timmi were awesome, I couldn't have met friendlier people.
I can add this one to the list of Navajo tacos I've tried, and I'll definitely be back to try the burger and maybe hotdog both made with frybread.
As far as I know San Antonio only has 2 options for frybread at the moment. I reviewed Straight From The Rez's Indian Tacos a few weeks ago, but these 2 trucks serve up very different styles of Navajo tacos.
Both trucks have their pluses, but for multiple menu items made with frybread, New Mexico style tacos, Hatch green chile and crispier bread this is your choice.
