Dolewhip Ice Cream, Hawaiian Mac, Steamed Rice & Asian Chicken Entrees. A Taste Of Hawaii
I've been tempted to try this since it opened, but Im not much of a chicken eater of any kind. When I visited the first time and saw nearly the entire menu was chicken, I chickened out.
I finally returned this week to give it a try, and ordered the mixed plate with Kilauea Chicken & Honolulu Chicken. The plate comes with mac salad, & a lot of rice.
I went with these 2 types of chicken because one was described as "infused with fresh garlic, green onion and sesame" and the other as "sweet and spicy with a lava hot kick". I love garlic, and I love spicy, and the Kilauea is listed as the hottest item on the menu.

The Kilauea chicken was good, but was lacking something flavor wise, I felt the flavor on it was a bit rich, and the heat was more prominent than the flavor. Both types of chicken were served with enough sauce that the rice beneath them was coated.
The Honolulu chicken however had really good flavor, a little sweet, a little savory, the garlic wasn't overpowering, and the green onion honestly had more flavor than the garlic.
I've had Hawaiian Mac at several places, but never really found any of them impressive. This one falls somewhere in the middle of the ones I've had.
My biggest criticism with this meal would probably be that it was served with a scoop of rice as a side, and another scoop of rice smashed out under the chicken. I ended up throwing away most of the 2nd scoop.
I ordered a soft drink, and saw they had a decent selection of items. Stubborn Vanilla Cream, Stubborn Root Beer, Dole Lemonade, Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Mt Dew, Dr Pepper & Starry. Then off to the side I saw sweet and unsweet tea, and 2 containers labeled Jamaica & Melon.
I started my meal with a cup full of the vanilla cream, which was actually pretty good. Then I refilled with some root beer which was decent, but lacking any bite and then tried some Mango. Surprisingly the container was pressurized. The juice, if I can call it juice, came out foamy, but settled and did not taste carbonated, it did taste fresh. Lastly I had to try some Jamaica because thats not really a flavor. I can only describe the Jamaica, as a reddish maroon color, a bit bitter, maybe tea like with juice.. I could compare maybe to pomegranate.
The melon was really good, maybe my 2nd favorite drink here, it tasted like cantaloupe juice, but my favorite was what I had as I walked out the door 50/50 Root Beer, Vanilla Cream.
Just before I left, I debated trying the Dole whip. I wasn't sure exactly what it was. What I expected was a fruit juice infused ice cream. I've heard people talk about it at different places, I knew it was a type of ice cream, but wasn't completely sure what.
The night I was there they had strawberry, pineapple and swirl, but I was told they switch the flavors regularly. But once I took one bite, I knew exactly what it was, imagine soft serve sherbert ice cream. Thats it.. its non dairy.
**Tip** They informed me that signing up online for the rewards gets you a free Dole whip ice cream.. So if you want to try it, its free..
So.. my verdict.. while I'm not big on chicken, the chicken here was pretty good. I enjoyed the Honolulu chicken more than the Kilauea. Too much rice for me, so-so mac salad, although I saw someone come in (huband, wife and kid), and leave with nothing but a couple serving plastic container of it.
I'd return, try another mixed plate. Maybe try the next spice level down (the Molokai) or the seasoned vegetables, and more of the Honolulu chicken.
Not the best Hawaiian food I've had, but maybe in my top 3.. It was some of the best Hawaiian chicken I've had. Good sodas, good juice, decent ice cream. Portions were good, I left completely full..
And for those who care, there were 2 bathrooms, very clean, both unisex, with some faucets I've never seen before. Faucets had motion activated soap on the left side, water in the middle, hand drier on the right side, all in the same part hanging over the sink. I was impressed with this sink for a moment as I'd never seen one like it before.
