  • ★★★★½ Double Meat Burger Crinkle Cut Fries Orange Cream Shake Visited Jun 19, 2023

I've had Burger Boy 5 times now, despite my telling people that I think its just "OK". They are open till 11, and more of them are popping up. I've ordered the working mans combo a few times, and the Bates combo once, I've tried 3 different shakes, including the pina colada, peppermint, and orange, and while the shakes are decent, they are just OK as well. The peppermint was probably the best.

I've had shakes made with hand scooped ice cream, in stainless cups on an old fashioned 1950's mixer, and Burger Boys shakes don't taste like those do.

The burgers are much like a plain Whataburger or Blakes Lotaburger (for you New Mexicans). Same toppings, plain bun, topped with onion, pickles, lettuce & mustard. I haven't tried the chicken or fish sandwiches they offer, because everyone always talks about the burgers.

I've been told that I must not like simple burgers, (but I gave RD's Burgers a really good review on my first visit) and they have the same toppings, and what I would consider an old fashioned burger that has a lot more flavor. I used to like Floyds until they closed up after 50+ years. Thats as simple a burger as you can get. But they were greasy. I would suspect maybe the meat at Burger Boy is leaner, maybe theres less salt, definitely less grease than other places. Im not sure what it is, but I just feel they are lacking something flavor-wise.

As I've put this out there more and more, I've started finding more people who agree. Probably also due to more locations opening and more people trying it.

Almost didnt mention the fries, crinkle cut, deep fried. They remind me of the fries I used to make at home as a kid, in the counter top deep fryer, from a frozen bag. The trick was they were fried in Crisco.

What I will say about Burger Boy is the orders have been right every time so far, orders come out pretty quick, fries have been fresh every time. I left a 4/5 review and was contacted by management to find out why I didnt give them the 5th star. I explained to them I didnt think the food was 5 stars.. but they offered me another meal and invited me back to try it again.. The customer service is good. The meat and bread is sourced locally. But when it comes to flavor, it doesnt make my top 5 burgers.
