All The Bowls Are Good, But The Spicy Alamo Is My Favorite
This place is hard to describe, other than Tex-Mex Korean Fusion.
But I'd even go as far to say this is Korean BBQ done Pokebowl style.
You can get chicken, beef, or mixed here. Served on top of rice, and topped with a ton of items. Bowls contain diced jalapenos, spicy mayo, fried egg on top, Siracha, cilantro, chili powder, pickled vegetables, pineapple, red onion, sesame seeds, diced avocado, carrots, brocoli, kimchi, and more. As you can tell from that list, theres Korean items in there, Mexican items in there, Chinese/Asian items and sauces in there. So this is really a unique fusion.
Bowls come in regular and large. A large is nearly enough for 2 people and I dont think I've ever finished the large in 1 sitting. But its one of those deals where its only $1-2 more for a huge portion of food.
So far I've tried the Spicy Alamo, The Hill Country (Bibimbap), the Spicy San Antonio, and the Spicy Philly Bulgogi. My favorite? its hard to pick one. Maybe the Spicy Alamo, because it has the jalapenos and avocado.
The flavors here are crazy, the first time I visited I had no idea what to expect, and this most recent visit I tried the spicy philly and again what I received was unexpected. The philly cream cheese was a scoop that was set to the side of the bowl. The combination of spicy and sweet pineapple was interesting. I had expected the cream cheese to be a sauce or something spread across the meat before the toppings were added, but instead I had to portion it into my bites. But as usual, the flavor was great.
I've heard good things about the wings here, but knowing how large the bowls are here, I've never ordered the wings. I love the bowls too much to skip ordering one.
Check out the photos to get an idea what this places serves, because I've never seen anything like this elsewhere. If you like Korean food, if you like sushi, if you like poke bowls, then you should probably try this place.
Gogi Street Grill is located right near the McAllester Park entrance off Jones Maltsberger.
