Mixed Review. Service and Selection Was Good, But Food Didnt Deliver The Flavor.
Earlier this week I tried Taquila Jalisco on Fredricksburg Rd near Wonderland Mall. They are located on the corner of Crossroads Blvd and Fredricksburg, across the street from the Whataburger.
Was shopping in the area, and decided to give this place a try. When I saw they offered a birria entree I was able to make a decision on what to order pretty quick.
The meal started off great, chips, salsa and bean dip were brought out. This was maybe the 2nd or 3rd place I've ever been to that served hot liquidy bean dip with the chips. The bean dip was great, and I had high hopes for the Birria that was on its way.
After about 10 minutes, my birria arrived. This plate was just meat, served with chopped onion and cilantro, and was also asked if I wanted tortillas. The plate was served with rice, and no beans, and a few slices of lime.
The birria lacked flavor and was on the bland side, the plate was rather minimal. I think I would have been better off with the quesa-birria on the menu. I tried the rice, which had peas and carrots in it, it was fluffy, and semi-moist, but was pretty plain and didn't really add much flavor to the meal.
Overall the meal was OK, but I probably won't go back. The plate was about $13, which is on the higher side for birria when its served almost by itself. Service was good, my waitress checked on my table multiple times, the restaurant & bathrooms were clean & modern, & while the menu offered a decent amount of selections, they failed to deliver flavor and a decent portion for the price.
I ordered the plato de birria because it was listed as a restaurnt favorite, and the quesa birria was not.— Paul
