Amazing Burger - Dont Let The Name Scare You, Its A Medium Spiciness.
Was stuck at the Forum, waiting on a tire repair and walked over to Bubbas 33 on Pat Booker and 1604. Ordered the Habanero burger and was totally impressed.
I've been on a roll lately with hamburgers, and it seems I keep finding one after another that are amazing and unique.
I'd never eaten at Bubbas before, I was seated and browsed the menu which is mostly burgers and pizza. They have a few burgers made with a bacon/beef mix and then the regular burgers made with Angus beef. All of the burgers are 1/2 lb burgers.
I opted to order the Habanero burger not sure how hot this burger would be since it was described as jalapeno infused cream cheese, with diced grilled jalapeno onion mix, topped with a habanero sauce. This sounded like possible fire to me. Found out I could sub the fries for onion rings for $2.
I started the meal with a Apple Pie Mule, made from Crown Apple whiskey. The drink came out and it was one of the sweetest Moscow Mules Ive ever had, the apple flavor was very apparent. If you like sweet drinks I would recommend this one.
The burger came out, stacked but not pressed and it stood about 6 inches tall. It had what appeared to be an onion ring on top, but I found out quickly this was cream cheese, a huge patty of jalapeno cream cheese nearly the size of the meat patty that was breaded and deep fried. Every single bite of this burger had cream cheese, it was amazing, I tried a piece of the cheese by itself, I've never had fried cream cheese before, It was so good... I sliced the burger in half after pressing it down.
The meat was juicy, and greasy, my fingers had liquid running off them. The hottest part of the burger was honestly the jalapeno onion mix. It was grilled peppers and onion, chopped almost like pico de gallo. A decently thick layer of it coated the burger. I never saw or tasted the Habanero sauce. But heat wise it was spicy, but not what I would consider hot. Not sure how to explain the heat level, but I wouldn't be scared away. Ive had tons of food far hotter than this. This is as hot as pickled jalapenos, or store bought hot salsa. I think most people could tolerate this level of heat easily, and if not the chopped peppers can be removed once you taste it, and the heat level would probably be cut in half.
The burger though had amazing flavor. I'm not sure what the secret here is, maybe the Angus beef? Maybe some kind of oil or butter seasoning, but the meat was grilled with a crisp edge on it, and the liquid running off it had a distinct grill smell to it.. I actually licked my fingers..
The onion rings were excellent as well, they were large, thick rings, with batter that was crispy and contained seasoning. These weren't your average plain frozen rings, these were really good. The onions inside were still moist, the shell had flavor of its own similar to breading on a spicy chicken strip. The rings came with both a ranch dip and a orangy thousand island like dipping sauce.
The service was good, the food was absolutely amazing. The cost of the burger and rings was $14. I rarely find myself willing to pay this for a burger and onion rings, but honestly this burger was so good I'll be returning. Its definitely in my top 5 burgers ever. Its going to be a strong contender for the #1 position when I put my burger list together. As far as spicy burgers go, this is definitely the #1. It wasnt the hottest by far. But it was the most flavorful.
They also gave me a certificate for a free appetizer my next visit, just let them know its your first time eating there.
Wish I had tried this place sooner. I pass by it all the time. The photos don't do this burger justice.
