Had Heard Mentions Of This Place, So It Warranted A Visit.
Today I visited Sangria on the Burg, located on Fredericksburg Rd, just outside loop 410. An online post advertising a "Wednesday Burger" special, the Chimi Chimi Burger, advertised as a brisket beef patty with spinach, tomato, goat cheese and house chimichurri sparked my interest.
I arrived at the restaurant/bar, was seated promptly and brought a glass of water. I was asked if I wanted to start with something to drink. I should have assumed they were known for sangria, as its part of the restaurant name, but it didn't occur to me, just like until arriving I had not connected "on the burg" to being located on Fredericksburg Rd. I had no idea what I wanted other than the burger, so I ordered that, and proceeded to browse the digital menu further.
The staff were dressed in black and white attire, the tables neatly set, and the restaurant giving off a fine dining vibe much like what you would find in the Pearl or Blue Star restaurant areas. Of course this was lunch on a work day, so the majority of diners were on their lunch break wearing casual clothing & company badges. The restaurant was a mix of upscale hangout and fine dining experience. Outside on the deck was a large group of women having brightly colored drinks dressed with fruit. These drinks were hard to miss as the waitress passed by a few times with boards holding 4 tumbler glasses filled with pastel orange, purple, yellow and pink liquid. I assume these are the sangria or margarita flights.
While waiting for my burger, I heard several other tables ordering. I heard a waitress comment that the bulgogi tacos were the most popular tacos on the menu. Despite the waitress informing another table the wait for food was about 30 minutes, my order only took about 15 minutes to come out.
When the burger arrived it looked as advertised, was plated and assembled artfully, with spinach dangling and tomato slices peeking from the edges. The meat patty was thick, between two toasted buns, with just a bit of white cheese and chimi churi on top of the meat. I sliced the burger in half and saw the meat was cooked somewhere around medium to medium well, with just a tiny bit of pink left. I wasn't asked how I wanted it cooked, and I always assume when a restaurant doesn't ask, its best to leave it as prepared by the chef. The cheese was very apparent with the first bite, giving the burger a very creamy flavor that lasted throughout every single bite. The meat was juicy, the vegetables fresh, with everything coming together to make what was a really good burger. The burger however fell short on the chimichuri side, as I couldn't really taste it. I knew it was there, I saw it on the burger, but the flavor wasn't apparent, and for a burger named the chimi chimi burger, I was expecting more flavor from it.
My service was great, and the food moderately priced. The menu has a wide variety of food, with many fusion items. Presentation and quality of the food and drinks are excellent. Its definitely worth a visit for lunch, or nice date night.
The Wed Burger Special was $6. Most entrees are $12-15, with a full meal averaging $20-25.— Paul
