BBQ Chain Offering BBQ Basics
This restaurant was located on the main street. I figured Id give it a try, because it had some decent reviews & they had multiple locations. I figured this meant it might be a decent place to get some regional style BBQ.
The menu had all the basics, brisket, chicken, pork, ribs & ham. Sides were the common items as well, beans, green beans, corn & potato salad. I ordered the brisket plate with green beans and potato salad, which also included some hush puppies.
When the plate came out the first thing I noticed was how thin the BBQ brisket was sliced. It resembled roast beef slices. It had some fat along the edge which I consider to be a good thing as thats usually where all the smokey pit flavor is trapped. The hushpuppies appeared to have some jalapeno in them, and the green beans were the wide style. The plate appeared to be a promising meal.
I started with some brisket, sadly the meat lacked almost any pit flavor. The meat sliced as thin as it was, still didnt fall apart. Im used to brisket so tender even thick slices break when you poke the fork into them. The potato salad wasnt bad, but Im also not a fan of the mustard style potato salad, thats just my preference. The green beans could have been more flavorful, they needed some salt and didnt really have the bacon or ham flavor that is common in southern grean beans. Overall nothing delivered the flavor I was expecting.
I did receive a review response from the restaurant, only saying that their BBQ has been done this way a long time, and is authentic to the region.— Paul
