Great Brisket & Sausage, Real Texas BBQ That Goes Back 100 Years.
Walking into this place is part of the experience. You order your food in a large room where the smokers are located, surrounded by a big wood-and-brick building filled with the smell of the oak being used to cook the BBQ. This isn't a modern BBQ restaurant, Kreuz Market is one of the oldest BBQ restaurants around, with over 100 years of history.
The meat definitely lives up to the setting. The brisket was great. It had good smokey flavor, bark that was full of flavor, a moist inside that was tender, and overall was a piece of meat that was cooked nearly to perfection. There wasn't much I'd change about this brisket. But I felt the pieces I was served were a bit less tender than I prefer, and a bit leaner. I know some people like their brisket lean, but I prefer the marbling which causes it to become much more tender. Either way, this is definitely some of the better brisket out there.
The sausage was another highlight. I've had friends tell me the jalapeño sausage here is among the best they've ever had. It's easily one of the better sausages I've had as well. The sausage has a nice casing, with a little bit of snap to it, the insides contain a perfect mix of meat, jalapeno, & cheese and when thats cooked on the smokers, you get that oaky smoke flavor on top of what is already a well made sausage. They sell them hot or cold, and by the box.
I also tried a full size rib with my meal, which I found to be only decent when compared to the brisket and sausage. The rib was lacking in several respects, it was the least juicy of the items, had less pit flavor than other items, and didnt fall off the bone. I was expecting something much more tender and juicy.
The sides are where I felt the meal fell a little short. They offer a decent variety, including German potatoes, beans, mac and cheese, coleslaw, green beans, and sauerkraut. But a few items I like were missing, and the ones I tried didn't reach the same level as the meats.
Lockhart is an area that's deeply rooted in Texas BBQ history, its home to the majority of Texas's oldest BBQ restaurants, and most are still serving customers today.— Paul

Another visit to Kreuz BBQ, Some Changes To The Menu
I noticed on this visit the restaurant had added Poblano Creamed Corn. I had wished they had creamed corn in the past and now they have it. I also noticed the German Potatoes had been replaced by Potato Casserole on the menu board.
The brisket this trip was better than my previous a few years earlier.. The brisket was more moist this trip, and was pretty tender. The sausage was just as good as before and overall the meal was a good one.
The newly added poblano creamed corn was decent, not as sweet as I like my creamed corn, but not bad at all. I found it a welcome addition to the menu as I felt this was something they were missing on my past visits.
Posted this as an update, as I might have just received some leaner brisket the first trip, and the creamed corn this trip triggered the need for an addition to their reviewed items.— Paul
