First Time At This Location - Also Been A While Since Id Eaten At Bill Miller BBQ
I hadn't eaten at Bill Miller's in quite a while. The prices for their BBQ plates had gone up significantly, and for the price, there are quite a few other places where I'd rather get brisket. I'd also never eaten at this particular location, but while passing through Castroville, I decided to stop in and give it another try.
I ordered the regular plate with brisket, beans, and hash browns. When the plate came out, I was honestly surprised by how little food there was. The divided sections for the beans and hash browns had such a small amount in them that it was almost comical. These are some of the least expensive items on the plate, yet there was barely enough of either to make a few bites. I finished the beans in about three spoonfuls, and the hash browns didn't last much longer. The brisket wasn't much better, with only three short slices on the plate.
I actually went over to the condiment bar and got a decent amount of onions and pickles to eat with the meal because, without them, there was no way I was going to come close to being full. After adding my drink and tax, the meal came to about $14. I really wish I'd taken a photo because the portions were almost the size of what you'd expect from a TV dinner. I honestly think some $5 frozen meals probably contain more food than what was on this plate. When I left, I felt like I had just purchased a snack rather than a meal and was ready to go somewhere else to actually get something to eat.
After this experience, it's probably going to be quite a while before I eat at Bill Miller's again. There are too many other places where I can get a better portion of BBQ for around the same price.— Paul
