Decent Cheesesteak, A Bit Overcooked
I stopped at this new gas station to see what they had inside, and as I was pulling into the parking lot, I noticed the Charleys Cheesesteaks sign. Since I was traveling for work and looking for something to eat along the way, that was good enough reason for me to give it a try.
I walked over to the counter and was waited on almost immediately. I ordered the classic cheesesteak by itself, then purchased a soda from the travel center and took a seat in the dining area while I waited.
The sandwich took maybe 10 minutes to come out, even though there wasn't anyone else waiting for food. When it arrived, it was a little messy and didn't look quite as well put together as some of the other Charleys sandwiches I've had.
The first thing I noticed when I took a bite was that the meat seemed a little overcooked. The flavor was also different from what I've experienced at other locations. It was noticeably more bland, although I'm not sure exactly what was missing. There also seemed to be less meat on the sandwich, although that could have been partly because the meat was overcooked.
The sandwich wasn't horrible, but it wasn't particularly good either. I've found that the flavor of the same sandwich can vary quite a bit between different Charleys locations, and I've even had noticeable differences at the same location on different visits. This particular sandwich was definitely toward the lower end of the range for flavor, but I wouldn't go as far as to call it bad. It was simply a fairly average and underwhelming cheesesteak.— Paul
