Great Outdoor Dining In The Fall. Very Scenic
Just behind the Broad Run Swiss Heritage Winery is Han's Place. A little vineyard bistro serving up all sorts of food items, and of course wine.
I hadnt had lunch yet, and after seeing all the wine and cheese up front, decided to walk back to see what Han's had. I saw there was a nice deck outside, with a view of the hillside covered in fall color trees. I decided to take a seat and try something from the menu.
I saw a grilled ruben sandwich, which seemed fitting for the part of the country I was in, so I went with that and a wine flight, thinking I might try one that was amazing, and could just go in and take a bottle to go with me.
The food came out decently quick, the portion size was about average, everything was fresh, the bread was toasted, the corned beef had good flavor, the sauerkraut wasnt overpowering. All in all it was a decent ruben, maybe not the best I've ever had, but decent enough.
The only issue with the meal was a large number of bees which had decided to invade the outdoor area, landing in peoples wine glasses, and buzzing around relentlessly. Staff were putting out containers with wine around the edges of the deck in an attempt to lure the bees away from the dining tables. But this is the kind of thing that makes a dining experience memorable. It did cause a bit of a nuisance, but didnt ruin the meal.
My wine flight contained a decent assortment of wines, ranging from dry, to semi-dry, with a few different flavors. I didnt find a favorite, but it was still a nice way to add some variety to the meal.
Service was pretty good throughout the meal. I had a bit of a wait to pay, but the staff had their hands full with the bees. Replacing peoples glasses with drowned bees in them, and shooing them away with objects.
Despite the bees, Id return here for another hillside meal, especially in the fall.— Paul
