  • ★★★★☆ Slider Onion Rings Visited Oct 16, 2015

An Average Experience, Food Was Just Decent

I was traveling across country, visiting random places, and It was getting late. I saw there was a White Castle nearby, and I'd never had it before so I figured why not? I had seen the movie Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle many years earlier, and I had to wonder, are the sliders there really that great?

I detoured a bit over to the location and went inside. The visit was memorable for several reasons, but one that stood out was the booth beside me, which was occupied by a group of homeless individuals who had pan handled and gathered up enough money to get a meal. They had ordered an assortment of items, and were conversing about things that happened over the day, that someone had lost a favorite hat, and that they would go out looking for it later. It made the whole experience one I wouldnt forget.

My food came out, and I was surprised. I mean I expected sliders, I knew they would be small, but the tray handed to me was pretty empty. 4 small boxes, a container of onion rings, and my drink. I didnt realize this was something you come in and order a half dozen of just to get started.. I figured when I finished my first order, Id go back and order a few more, but after eating the 4 and the onion rings, I felt I had already had my fill.

They werent bad, but they werent amazing either. I felt like they were soggy, I think they steam them, and the flavor was minimal, the meat in them was minimal, the bread made up the majority of the slider, and the onion / mustard was where most the flavor came from.

I guess it wasnt what I was expecting. Where Im from, copycat restaurants had popped up and failed, closing just a year or two from opening. I had hoped this being pretty much the standard for fast food sliders, the experience would be one I would go away craving more of.
