A Favorite For Beef Pad Thai

I've eaten at Bangkok Cuisine at least a dozen times over the years, sometimes with a few months between visits. I usually stop in for lunch, although I've occasionally brought someone with me for dinner. Every time I visit, there's a board near the entrance with chef specials that change from visit to visit. I still haven't tried one, mostly because I keep going back to my usual favorites. The menu also talks about how the owner personally prepares the dishes to ensure everything is fresh, and you can definitely tell that even the lunch specials are made fresh to order.

I've ordered the Pad Thai and Pad See Ew numerous times, and both have been consistently excellent. The portions are always generous here, the beef has good flavor, the noodles have a nice sweet flavor to them, and overall the plates have become some of my favorites anywhere.

I've eaten at more than two dozen Thai restaurants across the country at this point, and Bangkok Cuisine ranks among the better ones I've tried. Everyone I've brought here has enjoyed the food, and several have ended up returning on their own.

The one thing to be aware of is that the spice level can vary quite a bit. I normally order mild to medium when trying a new Thai restaurant because I know every restaurant handles spice differently. At Bangkok Cuisine, medium has generally been just right for me, although I've ordered hot before as well.

I did have one visit where I ordered a medium Pad Thai that was extremely spicy, far hotter than any medium I'd previously received here. It was loaded with pepper flakes and seeds, and after only a few bites I knew I wasn't going to be able to finish it. The situation wasn't handled particularly well by the staff, and the replacement dish I eventually received was a spice level 0. Which I think was done in spite of my complaint.

But I wasn't going to let one bad meal keep me from returning. I did feel however if they got to know their customers they would have known I was a regular, and that I'd ordered this many times before. Now I just order more cautiously and recommend that anyone eating here for the first time start on the lower end of the spice scale.

I've eaten some seriously spicy foods, including dishes where I've had to sign waivers. Interestingly, the photo with the pile of spices on top wasn't that meal. The super hot meal had the peppers cooked into the dish.

The service can be somewhat impersonal compared with some of the restaurants I visit regularly. I've never really developed the same personal relationship with the staff here that I have at some of my other favorite restaurants, but that doesn't take away from the quality of the food. Overall, Bangkok Cuisine remains a restaurant I recommend for the food. Just keep the spice levels in mind when ordering.
