Buffet Lacked Selection & Quality Items
I visited the Gathering of Nations Buffet, located inside the casino at the Inn of the Mountain Gods.
The buffet had a decent number of items spread out, but the overall selection still felt small for what you'd expect from a casino buffet. It came across as an attempt to feature 5 nationalities of food, but because each section had a very limited selection it was more like a hodgepodge of different items.
The buffet had an Italian section with bruchetta, 2 kinds of pizza, garlic toast. Then a Chinese section, with sweet and sour pork, pot stickers, and fried rice. A Mexican section, with cheese sauce, tamales, & taquitos.
That was pretty much how the whole buffet went. About 1 entree and a side or 2 to match with it.
Some of what was offered looked totally unappealing, while other items looked decent enough to give a try. On top of that, the buffet was priced a bit higher than I expected going in.
I decided to just go with the randomness of it all. For my first plate, I went with some prime rib topped with horseradish sauce, along with a southwestern style corn mixed with red peppers, and stopped by the salad bar for some shrimp cocktail. On my second plate, I grabbed a random assortment of items that included some Mexican food entrees.
Overall, the buffet wasn't especially memorable, aside from how odd the assortment of food was. The flavors across the board were somewhat bland, nothing really stood out as great, and for the price, it felt like it wasn't worth the money.— Paul
