Most Amazing Bakery I've Seen In A Travel Center
If you’re traveling along I-35 South, the Parador Travel Center, part of the Choke Canyon Travel Center, is worth knowing about for more than just the usual gas, snacks, and road-trip necessities. One of the things that caught my attention here is the bakery inside. (Theres also BBQ, Separate Review)
On my first few visits, the bakery selection was surprisingly impressive. There was a wide assortment of desserts and baked goods, including several types of cheesecake such as strawberry, caramel, and berry, along with fried cheesecake rolls, Bundt cakes, cookies, pies, multi-layered cake slices, and some very elaborately decorated desserts. It was the kind of bakery selection that made stopping here a far more interesting than your typical travel center.
The biggest issue I’ve noticed is that the selection has been inconsistent. Those first few visits had the bakery well stocked with a great variety of items, but on later visits, the bakery was either mostly empty or had a much smaller selection. I haven’t yet asked whether there’s a particular day of the week when the bakery is fully stocked, or whether they’ve simply reduced the variety of items they’re offering.
That inconsistency makes it difficult to know exactly what to expect when stopping in. If you happen to catch the bakery when it’s fully stocked, there can be a lot of tempting options to choose from. If not, you may find yourself with only a handful of choices.
Still, the bakery is what initially made this travel center stand out to me. I’d definitely stop again when traveling I-35, especially if I’m in the area around a time when the bakery is likely to be fully stocked.
