Less Than Average Flavor, Average Selection, My 2nd Visit Here
Taste of China is located on the stretch of I-35 between San Antonio and Austin, and I'd frequently pass by it, which is what originally brought me in the first time. The food here was just decent, never great. The selection on the buffet was decent in size, but none of the individual items really stood out. Over the span of several years, I only ended up eating here twice, and neither experience was particularly good.
On one visit I got some egg drop soup that tasted a little off, and on closer inspection I noticed some of the egg floating in it had a grayish look to it. That wasn't an isolated issue either, a lot of the hot items on the buffet seemed soggy or dry, like they'd been sitting out for a while. Most of what I tried ranged from average to poor in flavor, and the dessert selection was pretty minimal on top of that.
Service was mediocre as well, with the table going untended for long stretches at times.
The price of the buffet was decent on both visits, but the food never delivered anything that made me want to come back. I'd hoped that since the restaurant had managed to stay open for so long, maybe the quality had improved, so I gave it a second try, but it ended up being about the same as the first time.— Paul
