Amazing Japanese Food! Nearly Everything Here Is Great
Fujiya is my favorite Japanese restaurant in San Antonio. The food is consistently excellent. I always try to visit with someone who will do the Dinner for 2 or "Dinner for Lovers". The meal is modeled after "a meal created for SteveMcQueen and Ali McGraw when they were in San Antonio in 1972 filming “The Getaway” ".
They offer this dinner for both lunch and dinner, with the lunch portions being a bit smaller, but still a ton of food.

The Onion soup is hands down the best I've Had Anywhere, It has a ton of flavor, and little bits of crispy onion floating in it. The mini egg rolls are decent, but not overly different other than their size. The Asian salad, even though Im not much a salad eater is pretty good, the dressing here is really what stands out. The Tonkatsu however is another amazing item, its got a nice crispy coating, the meat inside is always moist and tender, and its probably the best Tonkatsu I've Had Anywhere. Thats item #2 for the list. The sukiyaki, Im not a big fan of, its soupy, mushrooms, glass noodles, thin sliced beef, mushrooms. I think its part the flavor, part the texture, and part that Im not a big soup person. But I found out they are willing to sub it for another item, if both people agree. The vegetable tempura, is another great item, the coating is fluffy and crisp, but not crunchy, and the vegetables are cooked to a point they are soft but not soggy or crunchy, which makes this item better than at most places. Last is the orange icecream, which I believe is just a sherbert. Its orange, nothing really special about it.
This is a ton of food, and you might leave with a small box of left overs, but the price for it is a bargain. The entire meal for 2 is $50 at dinner and $23 for both people at lunch. The servings are a little smaller, and salad isn't included.
I've also tried the lunch specials which are a decent amount of food for $8 or less. These lunch specials are great, the best Japanese lunch I've found in San Antonio.
I've been dining at Fujiya for many years and almost everything has always been excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes Japanese food or is looking for a unique dining experience for 2.— Paul
