With A Rotating Menu, Minimal Selection, & Smallish Portions It Wasn't For Me
I normally start my review with a what to order.. But The Clean Plate has a menu that cycles daily. On the day I visited one of the main entrees was mac-n-cheese. They had 3 items on the board when we arrived. I was told when items run out for the day they are removed from the board, and I visited late in the evening.
I understand what they are doing with sustainable foods, farm to table, local sourced and all, but it comes at a cost of selection, and price.
First was the minimal menu, basically whatever is offered for the day is all there is, so either you show up clueless what your going to eat, or you call ahead to see whats on the menu. Secondly, many of the items on the menu that day like the mac-n-cheese were meatless or only offered a bit of protein, like bacon. Third, was that even though the place was almost empty our service was slow, it felt weird eating in a restaurant that only has a handful of tables to begin with and still being the only people there, and lastly the prices for these items was a bit high for what was offered.
I was unimpressed by the food, and the lack of uniqueness of the items offered didn't justify the cost to me. I guess if your wanting to eat farm fresh, non pesticide grown vegetables, non genetically modified foods, then this would be a great place, but that's not my thing.— Paul
