Really Good BBQ. Guess What? Hes From Texas!
We ate lunch at Can't Stop Smoking which is located just a few doors down from one of the ski shops we frequent when visiting Ruidoso. The interior is a large wood cabin, and both inside and outside seating is offered.
Theres a BBQ sandwich lunch special that came with chips and a drink for $6 but we wanted to try as much as possible and decided to go with the dinner plates. I ordered the 2 meat plate, brisket, & prime rib, macaroni & cheese & boiled potatoes.
The brisket had a lot of flavor, it had good smoke flavor from the wood and a nice bark on the outside edge. I added rib tips to the plate as an extra $3 add on as I wanted to cover all the bases ere. All together my plate with the extra ribs was $15 including a drink.
All of us agree'd the BBQ brisket was pretty good which was surprising to us as were from central Texas.. One of the places that argues its BBQ capital of the world.
While at the cash register we spoke with the owner and. he asked how we liked the food? We told him we were surprised how good the BBQ was.. he made a comment about how he was from a small town we probably have never heard of in Texas.. and thats where he learned to BBQ. Turned out he was from a town about 20 miles from where we live.
We all had a bit of a laugh about it. Gotta love Texas BBQ, even if its being made in New Mexico.
I would definitely return to this place while visiting Ruidoso. It was good food, friendly service.
**Update 2023**
The building had burnt down in 2018, and was rebuilt bigger and better. Additional loations even opened in other cities but after Covid in 2020, the owners decided to close up the brick and morter locations.— Paul
