First Time Trying Rosarios - Ordered The Chicken Mole
As a San Antonio native and a foodie, people are often surprised when I tell them I've never been to Rosario's. I finally decided to change that yesterday and made my first visit.
For my first meal, I went with the Chicken Mole. While we waited for our food, we were served chips and salsa. The salsa reminded me of one I've had before, It had a roasted poblano, garlicky flavor and a brownish color. I really liked the roasted flavor, so the meal was off to a good start. It had good flavor and texture.
The Chicken Mole was a pleasant surprise. When the menu described it as boneless chicken breasts, I assumed the chicken would be diced or pulled. Instead, the plate came with two large, whole boneless chicken breasts. I've had mole sauces that were overly sweet, but this one was excellent. It wasn't too sweet or too chocolatey, and it didn't have an overpowering peanut butter flavor. Instead, the ingredients and spices came together in a well-balanced sauce.
What really elevated the dish, though, was the chicken itself. It was topped with toasted sesame seeds that added another layer of flavor, and the chicken tasted as though it had been seasoned well, too. The entree was excellent overall. Unfortunately, the Spanish rice and beans were fairly average and took away a little from the meal as a whole.
My only other complaint was with the service for my drink. I ordered a Dr Pepper, but lemonade was brought out by mistake. I was then told the syrup on the drink machine was being changed, and I eventually received my drink about 15 minutes later, along with my meal. It was only refilled once, near the end of my meal when I was almost finished. This was my one service-related issue, rather than a problem with the food itself.
One thing worth mentioning is the location. Rosario's is in an area filled with trendy restaurants, bars, and popular hangouts, so I can imagine parking can be challenging at times. We ended up parking on the next street and walking around the corner.
I enjoyed my first visit and would be willing to return to try other items on the menu.— Paul
