The Cheese Enchiladas Here Are Awesome

I've been eating at Brown's with my family and picking up food to go for as long as I can remember. It's one of those places that has been a part of my life for decades, and even though a lot has changed over the years, the enchiladas have remained a favorite.

I've seen the restaurant change owners, go through remodels, and change its menu, but the cheese enchiladas have stayed pretty consistent. At one point, we actually asked the original owner what the secret was to their enchiladas. He told us that he got the cheese from a particular supplier, which I believe he said was in Mexico. Whatever the secret is, something about the combination of the cheese and sauce has kept me coming back for more than 30 years.

Honestly, I can't recommend much else from the menu because in all those years, I've never ordered anything other than the cheese enchiladas. That's not necessarily a bad thing, when you find something you really like, there's not much reason to order something else. The enchilada sauce has great flavor and ground beef in it, which some people don't care for, but I especially like mixing it with some of the rice. The enchiladas are cooked until the cheese liquifies, and the beans are also pretty good, with a nice flavor that goes well with the rest of the plate.

Another thing that has always made Brown's appealing is the price. The food has remained very affordable, which is one of the reasons my parents used to bring me here when I was a kid. Feeding a family of four can get expensive these days, but places like this were a regular option for families when I was growing up. Plus its in our neighborhood. Even after all these years, Brown's has kept that affordable, neighborhood-restaurant feel.

There is a small bar area in the corner when you first walk in, but I've rarely noticed it being particularly busy. People seem to come here primarily for the Mexican food, and for me, that's definitely the reason to visit.

So I guess the moral of the story is pretty simple: if you're looking for some good cheese enchiladas, give Brown's a try. I can't tell you how everything else on the menu is because after 30-plus years, I still haven't found a reason to order anything other than the enchiladas.
