Everything Needed More Flavor
It had been years since I'd last eaten at K-Bob's. While traveling, I remembered this location was still around because I'd passed it on another trip about a year earlier. I asked everyone in the car if they wanted to stop and give it a try.
The menu was a little different from what I remembered. It seemed to have expanded to include a lot of items similar to what you'd find at mainstream chains like Applebee's and Chili's. I remembered K-Bob's for what it was known for years ago: steaks and a salad bar.
They offer both a single-trip salad bar and an unlimited option. Since I'm not much of a salad person, I decided to skip it and order a steak dinner instead. I went with the Ranch House, a 6-ounce sirloin served with two sides, choosing onion rings and mashed potatoes.
Unfortunately, the meal was pretty underwhelming. The steak was okay, but it lacked flavor and was the kind of steak that needed sauce to make it more enjoyable. The onion rings were overcooked, with some being chewy and tasting less than fresh. The mashed potatoes weren't much better, as they lacked flavor as well.
Overall, I was disappointed with the experience. I have fond memories of eating at K-Bob's as a child during family vacations through Texas, New Mexico, and Colorado, so I was hoping for a little taste of that nostalgia.
I wouldn't rule out giving them another chance, perhaps at a different location if I come across one during my travels, but this visit definitely didn't live up to my memories.— Paul
