Great Chinese Food, Good Customer Service, A Favorite Of Mine
I've been eating at Shang-Hi every year since 2005, and it's become our favorite Chinese restaurant in Pagosa Springs. Every snowboarding trip I've made, my friends and I make it a point to visiting at least once.
The staff here are fantastic, always friendly, welcoming, and attentive to your needs. On several visits in December, we've even been gifted nice bamboo and canvas roll-out calendars, which was a thoughtful touch.
The food is consistently excellent. My favorites are the General Chicken and Orange Chicken, both served over a bed of shredded cabbage. The chicken is fried until crispy, has great flavor, and is coated in sauces that rank among the best I've had.
I'm also a big fan of their Mongolian Beef. It's the closest I've found to the version served at what I consider my absolute favorite restaurant for this dish. Shang-Hi's version comes in a close second and, coincidentally, is also served over crispy fried noodles, just like my other favorite.
While we've tried quite a few other menu items over the years, including some of the soups in cold snow storms, the two chicken entrees remain my favorites. Prices are reasonable, with most entrees coming in around the $13 range. Food generally arrives at the table without a long wait, portions are always pretty good size, and I've yet to receive a bad meal.
If you're visiting Pagosa Springs and looking for a sit-down dinner, Shang-Hi is an excellent choice. Dining options can be limited in the area, but this restaurant has been one of our favorites for more than two decades, and we always look forward to returning on our annual ski trips.— Paul
