Decent Wings & Beer. A Good Roadside Stop If Passing Thru
I stopped at the wellhead because two people had recommended it in conversations about microbreweries in Southern New Mexico.
When I arrived at the Wellhead, the outside looked a little like an old west saloon. The menu had a selection of regular beers, as well as about a half dozen of their own oil themed beers.
I decided to order a house beer and some wings as a snack before I got back on the road.
The beer I tried was decent, not a favorite, but there was a decent selection to choose from. The wings came out after a short wait, and had a slightly crisped skin and were lightly sauced, but pretty much an average order of wings.
The service was OK, I was waited on when I first came in and then only saw the waitress again when the food came out. Other than that I wasnt really checked on again, but the place was empty other than 1 other person. It was the afternoon hours when its probably the most empty.
The wings were cheap, the beers were priced reasonably at $4.50, but most the food was a bit pricey. Almost everything on the menu other than deserts was $10 and up. Burgers started at $10.
I would consider stopping here again for beers or food while traveling with friends, but the food prices didnt really make it a really affordable place to eat.— Paul
