  • ★★★★½ German Buffet Jagerschnitzel Bratwurst Visited Jan 29, 2017

Decent German Food, Especially For A Lunch Buffet

This was definitely a different place to visit. I found out about this place completely by chance while searching google. Someone had mentioned that they offered a German buffet and while traveling up I-35 with a friend we made the side trip to check it out.

I don't really get a chance to eat much German food other than my own cooking, or the occasional trip to Fredericksburg or Wurstfest in New Braunfels.

The restaurant was very quaint, an old historic looking building on the street edge, with a concrete sidewalk in front. You could tell the building had probably been there since the late 1800's, 1882 to be exact.

When you enter the insides its like a step back in time. The brick walls, old wallpaper and wood trim take you back 100 years. The buffet was located at the back wall on a brick buffet station.

We got to try a little of everything on the buffet. The buffet had all the classic items, bratwurst, wiener schnitzel, red cabbage, sauerkraut, and German potato salad.

The majority of the items I would call average to slightly better than most places. One of the items that really stood out to me was the jager gravy as it had a better flavor than most the places I've tried.

We visited on a weekday afternoon, so the restaurant was a bit empty. I'd like to return on a busy night as I saw signs advertising live music on weekends. The food was good enough to get me to return next time I have time and I'm in the area. Keep in mind I'm from San Antonio, about 2 hours away. Plus this is the only German buffet I know of anywhere in central Texas.
